Plot:
As in the famous novel, we are told the adventures of the
famous puppet, though, unlike the literary version, the drama is played by Pinocchio a real boy, only in some places it
back into a puppet. With a log of wood given him by speaking Cherry Master (Ugo D'Alessio), the carpenter Geppetto (Nino
Manfredi), builds a puppet animation, which he calls Pinocchio. During the night, dressed as a fairy, the carpenter's
wife (Gina Lollobrigida), widowed and alone, proposes a deal to the puppet precise: to make it a child (Andrea
Balestri). But, overwhelmed by his urge to live freely in human, Pinocchio often forgets his gratitude for Geppetto: By
the end of its first day, is already turned back into a wooden puppet and his feet burned, then, by truant for the
Puppet Theatre, ends up in the hands of the terrible Eater (Lionel Stander). The latter, after the merciful intervention
of the Fairy gave him five gold coins to wear to Geppetto, but, having yielded to the blandishments of the Cat and the
Fox (Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia), Pinocchio risk losing money and life, if at the last minute not to intervene
once again, the Fairy. Gold coins still end up in the clutches of cats and foxes, which convinces Pinocchio again become
a child, to bury the Field of Miracles. Geppetto, meanwhile, is near the sea and the dress of Pinocchio is finally
convinced that the Eater has kidnapped your child to take away with them in the Americas. Do not imagine, however, that
Pinocchio, thinking that the fairy is dead, more than ever determined to return him to repay his love and an end to
their misfortunes. Surprised by a farmer (Charles Bath) to steal a bunch of grapes, must resign even do the watchdog.
Recovered freedom, Pinocchio reaches the sea just when Geppetto, embarked on his research, is being overwhelmed by the
storm. Rejected by the waves on the beach, Pinocchio, convinced now of being alone in the world end up clinging to
Candlewick (Domenico Santoro), a companion that is intended to sviarlo once more by his good intentions, with his
dangerous charm. In a time when Candlewick leave him alone with his hunger, the Fairy forced him to earn his lunch with
his own labor. And when the Fairy promises that will return the good Geppetto, miraculously escaped, Pinocchio sincerely
committed to become a boy and a model pupil. But at school, Pinocchio finds Candlewick. Now, Candlewick maliciously
proposes to her restless companion a fabulous trip. Initially, Pinocchio finds the strength to prefer the promises the
Fairy to the enticements of Playland, but then decided to go with his friend to that country where, a few days later,
both become donkeys. Upon the sale of the donkey, Pinocchio was chosen by a buyer (Mario Colombaioni) the delivery to
the director of a circus (Mario Adorf), which makes him jump and dance, but one night is lame and bought another (Willy
Semmelrogge ), it throws into the sea to make a drum with his skin. Pinocchio in water, returns to being a puppet as
before, but he swims to save, is swallowed by a shark. Here you find Geppetto and become definitively a child, fled with
him from that prison unusual to return to normal life.

Trama:
Come
nel celebre romanzo, vi si narrano le disavventure del famoso burattino, anche se, a differenza della versione
letteraria, nello sceneggiato Pinocchio è impersonato da un bambino vero, che solo in alcuni punti si ritrasforma in
un burattino. Con un ciocco di legno parlante regalatogli da Mastro Ciliegia (Ugo D'Alessio), il falegname Geppetto
(Nino Manfredi), si costruisce un burattino animato, che chiama Pinocchio. Durante la notte, nei panni di una fata, la
moglie del falegname (Gina Lollobrigida), rimasto vedovo e solo, propone al burattino un patto preciso: quello di farlo
diventare un bambino (Andrea Balestri). Ma, travolto dalla sua smania di vivere liberamente la sua avventura umana,
Pinocchio dimentica spesso la sua gratitudine per Geppetto: al termine della sua prima giornata, si trova già
tramutato di nuovo in un burattino di legno e con i piedi bruciati; poi, avendo marinato la scuola per il Teatro dei
Burattini, finisce tra le mani del terribile Mangiafuoco (Lionel Stander). Quest'ultimo, dopo il pietoso intervento
della Fata, gli regala cinque zecchini d'oro da portare a Geppetto, ma, avendo ceduto alle lusinghe di Gatto e la Volpe
(Franco Franchi e Ciccio Ingrassia), Pinocchio rischierebbe di perdere il denaro e la vita, se, all'ultimo momento, non
intervenisse, ancora una volta, la Fata. Le monete d'oro finiscono comunque nelle grinfie di Gatto e Volpe, che
convincono Pinocchio, ridivenuto bambino, a seppellirle al Campo dei Miracoli. Geppetto, intanto, trova in riva al mare
il vestitino di Pinocchio e si convince definitivamente che Mangiafoco gli ha rapito il suo bambino, per portarlo con
sè nelle lontane Americhe. Non immagina, invece, che Pinocchio, credendo che la Fata sia morta, è più che mai
deciso a ritornare da lui, per ripagarlo del suo amore e per porre fine alle proprie sventure. Sorpreso da un contadino
(Carlo Bagno) a rubargli un grappolo d'uva, deve rassegnarsi perfino a fargli il cane da guardia. Recuperata la
libertà, Pinocchio arriva al mare proprio nel momento in cui Geppetto, imbarcatosi alla sua ricerca, sta per essere
travolto dalla tempesta. Respinto sulla spiaggia dalle onde, Pinocchio, convinto ormai di essere rimasto solo al mondo,
finisce per aggrapparsi a Lucignolo (Domenico Santoro), un compagno che è destinato a sviarlo una volta di più dai
suoi buoni propositi, con il suo fascino pericoloso. In un momento in cui Lucignolo lo lascia solo con la sua fame, la
Fata lo costringe a guadagnarsi il pranzo con la propria fatica. E quando la Fata gli promette che gli restituirà il
buon Geppetto, miracolosamente scampato, Pinocchio s'impegna sinceramente a divenire un ragazzo ed uno scolaro modello.
Ma, sui banchi di scuola, Pinocchio ritrova Lucignolo. Ora, Lucignolo propone maliziosamente al suo irrequieto compagno
un viaggio favoloso. All'inizio, Pinocchio trova la forza di preferire le promesse della Fata alle lusinghe del Paese
dei balocchi, ma poi decide di partire con l'amico verso quel paese dove, pochi giorni dopo, entrambi diventano
ciuchini. Al momento della vendita dei somari, Pinocchio viene scelto da un compratore (Mario Colombaioni) che lo
consegna al direttore di un circo (Mario Adorf), che lo fa saltare e ballare, ma una sera azzoppisce e viene comprato da
un altro (Willy Semmelrogge), che lo butta in mare per fare un tamburo con la sua pelle. Pinocchio, in acqua, ritorna ad
essere un burattino come prima ma, mentre nuota per salvarsi, viene inghiottito da un Pescecane. Qui vi trova Geppetto
e, diventato definitivamente bambino, fugge con lui da quella insolita prigione per tornare a una vita normale.
